SINCE September 2013 Bryn Hafren's ICT department has been running a Lego club every Wednesday at lunchtime, writes Kate Roberts, from the school.

The aim of the club is to help children develop their ICT skills and make ICT more interesting. Pupils also develop their problem solving, teamwork, communication and numeracy skills.

Pupils who regularly go to the club said they thought it helped with their concentration and patience because it is an ongoing project. They also found it helped them to read and follow instructions.

One pupil believed it was a new way of learning and said: "You have the freedom to learn at your own pace."

Since joining the club pupils have learnt how to rebuild a robot, remote-controlled car, a solar panel which measures how much energy is generated and wind turbines. They are now learning how to programme a robot.

Mr Richards, head of ICT said: "Attending the club will help give pupils basic engineering skills and experience which can help them get a job or place in university."

In the future Lego Club plans to include programming so that pupils will be able to create their own computer games.
