A SPATE of burglaries in Barry has left a number of householders the victims of pre-Christmas crime.

Police are reminding people to secure their homes following a number of recent burglaries, particularly in the Highlight Park area where access has been gained due to unlocked doors or windows.

Sergeant Matt Rowlands, of Barry police station, said: "Detecting and preventing burglary is a priority for South Wales Police.

“While we don’t want to alarm residents we feel it is important they are aware of these burglaries so they can ensure their homes are properly secure.

“Most burglaries happen as a result of doors and windows being left unlocked, making it easy for burglars to enter homes and help themselves.

“Christmas is an expensive time of year and burglars know this – they will be aware that more homes will contain valuable items in the lead up to the festive season.”

He advised people to lock all windows and doors and keep valuables out of sight to reduce the chances of becoming a victim of crime and to report anyone behaving suspiciously.

Anyone with information on who is responsible for the burglaries should call Barry CID on 01446 731606 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
