A WOMAN who conquered Everest and became the first Welsh and youngest female to ascend the summit, has visited a Barry school to motivate pupils.

Adventurer and motivational speaker Tori James visited Barry Comprehensive School to work with year 10 and 11 pupils on how they could achieve their personal goals.

Tori made history on May 24, 2007 when she climbed the world’s highest mountain.

A school spokesman said: “Tori’s presentations were visually impressive, engaging and moving. We saw video footage of her negotiating the treacherous Icefall of Everest and of her, eventually, arriving at the summit. However, it was Tori’s simple message of self-belief, relentless determination and a can-do attitude that made her visit really memorable. In her book Peak Performance she writes: “I believe the secret of success is being passionate about the things you do in your life; it’s about thorough planning and never giving up even when the going gets tough.” This message certainly resounded with many of our year 10 and 11 students who are facing significant challenges this year.”
