A BARRY drug and alcohol recovery centre has been shortlisted for a national £1,000 prize and needs your vote to help it secure it.

Recovery Cymru, on Holton Road, Barry, recently underwent a transformation thanks to donations from the Dulux Let's Colour scheme and has now been chosen as one of the country’s top 20 benefactors.

The paint donation was used to paint the interior walls with bold purple and aubergine vertical stripes, a design scheme that has led to the nomination, chosen from more than 100 applications.

In order to scoop the £1,000 prize, to be spent on further improving the site, the project must receive the most votes on the Dulux Let’s Colour Facebook page.

Project leader Sarah Louise Vaile said: “When we heard we’d been shortlisted for the prize, we were absolutely over the moon.

"Now we’re encouraging everyone we know to vote for our project as the £1,000 would make such a huge difference to our visitors.

“The paint donation has really helped us transform the space and we’ve had loads of positive comments from everyone who uses the site, so winning this prize would be the icing on the cake for everyone involved.

"We could make even more improvements to the centre so we can continue helping people through self-help and recovery programmes.”
