Peter's prize money will now be put to good use!

AFTER five years of fundraising, the Eleventh Barry Sea Scout Group can at last carry out imp-rovement work to their Scout Hall - thanks to award-winning water worker Peter Evans.

Peter, who works at the Dwr Cymru Welsh Water Customer Services Centre in St Mellons, was nominated for a Thames Water volunteer award in recognition of his long-standing commitment to the Scout movement.

Thames Water, who deliver customer services on behalf of Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, operate an annual Volunteer Award Scheme that recognises individuals who regularly take part in voluntary or charitable activities.

Peter's £1,000 prize money will be used by the group to help fund a concrete hard play area outside the Scout Hall, providing access for wheelchair users.

Peter said: "I'm very pleased that my employers have recognised the work I undertake outside of my day job.

"And I'm delighted to have won this award because of what it will mean for the Scouts, and the prize money will enable us to put the finishing touches to our new scout hall, making it much safer and far more accessible."

Chris Casado, group manager of the Barry Sea Scout Group, said: "We are delighted that Peter has won this award. Peter has remained dedicated to the Eleventh Barry Sea Scout Group since his cub days with us.

"We hope to start work on our new driveway as soon as possible."
