A FORMER Barry DJ has gone global thanks to a daily internet show which has proved a listener hit across the world.

Granddad-of-four Dave Thomas, of the Colcot, presents a daily show from midnight to 2am, under the DJ name Davy Tee.

The former Barry Boys pupil's show, Late Night Delights, has proved popular with audiences in the USA, Australia, South Africa andSouth America as well as being well represented by listeners in the UK and Europe - even though it is late at night here in the UK.

He was formerly the resident DJ of venues like the New Merry Friars, Feathers in the 80s and also was the lead DJ at the Powerstation in the 90s, before moving onto the mobile scene in the town until retiring in 2008.

He recently found fame as the host of a daily internet radio show on a station called Jazz Funk Soul Radio with a global audience that is continually growing.

Davy, 49, said: “Listen at your peril as the station is addictive and the listeners always come back.”

Davy Tee has also, as part of the station, been involved in the last three of its popular Soul Weekenders which have been held at Clacton-on-Sea, in Essex, under the banner of Bless the Funk which on each occasion has been sold out.

The event features many of the stations DJs and occasional guests and keeps going from strength to strength - so much so that it has now outgrown its current venue.

Davy said his intention was to bring a similar event to the Barry area at some stage in the future and that he was looking to link up with the people of Barry - especially regulars at venues like the discos at Fantasia, Bindles Ballroom, Merrie Friars and Pixie nightclubs back in the day - who have a passion for a good boogie to the good old days of soul and disco music.

The Soul weekender events are attended primarily by over 35s and require a venue that can accommodate approximately 350-plus people with late licensing, as a weekender event normally runs from early evening Friday to 2am/3am and from approximately. midday until 2am/3am on the Saturday and from midday until approximately 6pm/7pm on the Sunday.

He said having more than one room available for the music would help, especially for the Saturday night as it would attract the largest audience.

Davy said: “If you have a venue in the Barry area and could possibly handle an event of this size, most likely in the month of October - even better if you have accommodation available as this event draws people from all over the UK and even from abroad - then I would like to hear from you.”

The station is holding its next event on the South Coast of England over the four days of the Whitsun Bank Holiday where Davy will be taking to the stage as part of the DJ team.

If you have a liking for soul and disco music and would like to get a taste for the weekenders, Davy is looking to run a not-for-profit bus or coach to the event from Barry if there is sufficient interest, and will assist with seeking accommodation for the weekend.
