HIGH Street Barry hosted another big festive switch-on, that turned into a Christmas cracker of a celebration.

With guests ranging from AM Jane Hutt, MP Alun Cairns and town mayor Claire Curtis to the Gingerbread Man and of course Santa Claus himself, thousands of people flocked to High Street for the official turning on of the lights on Friday, November 29.

Entertainment was on hand from Bro Radio, and snacks, gifts and drinks available from stalls lining the streets and manned by local traders.

One of the figures behind the celebration, Bob Armstrong - otherwise known as Dr Bob of Dr Bob's Balloons - said: "We were overwhelmed again with the amount of people who turned up.

"There were people from one side of the pavement to the other. We think there were about 4,000 people."

Dr Bob selected two children, Rebecca and Jay, from the crowd to turn on the lights, he said; "I always look to get the children involved. They were so excited, they had a wonderful time."

Dr Bob thanked all the traders, and also Barry Town Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council, for all of their support.

Guest of honour Jane Hutt said: "Once again the High Street Christmas Lights celebrations were fantastic thanks to the hard work of the High Street Traders led by Dr Bob and his team of volunteers."
