THE Barry Choral Society has bid a fond farewell to its departing chairman.

Beryl Weale, who has also acted as the society's secretary and sung in the choir for many years, was the subject of a presentation to thank her for her years of service

Having worked at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Beryl was able to find many soloists and five conductors for the society and she also looked after publicity for the choir's concerts as well as doing a great deal of fundraising.

Particular praise was given to Beryl for steering the choir through two periods of instability, one following the retirement of long-serving conductor Douglas Baxter and the second, following the sudden resignation of another conductor.

Beryl was presented with gifts by conductor Emma Arscott and several past members and two former conductors attended the event as guests.

Barry Choral will next perform in Barry on Saturday, December 14, at 3pm at St Mary’s Church, Holton Road.

Rehearsals for the spring session at Barry Choral will resume on Wednesday, January 8, at 7.30pm at Crossway Church.
