A BARRY carpenter is pledging to outdo Santa’s elves when it comes to producing unique items for a Christmas wish-list.
Dad-of-two Mike Burnett is taking orders for a range of unique beds, wardrobes, toy boxes and other furniture-related goods which is he crafting from scratch from his Barry-based workshop on the town’s Atlantic Trading Estate.
The Beddy Byes production director has so far created items which include a Doctor Who TARDIS – originally intended as a wardrobe, but transformed into a play house by the youngster for who it was created - and pirate galleon, tank, digger, princess carriage and a Lamborghini bed.
The 42-year-old former Holton school and Barry Boys pupil, who studied carpentry at Cardiff & Vale College’s Barry site and worked as a joiner for Cowling Construction for 20 years.
And the former Sea View RFC player teamed up with husband and wife Michael and Sam Rennison, to create the business, after working on their house in St Athan last year.
Mike said the beds were made from high density mdf which itself was made from wood from sustainable forests and the high density enabled them to create the shapes and cuts used.
Mike said: “We’ve got set beds, but we can design beds and do what people want. They are all handmade as well.”
Mike can also create pet beds and bowls as well as accessories like mirrors and miniature kitchens and all items are hand painted.
He said: “I haven’t had one negative comment. There’s not many companies doing this.
“I find it very satisfying. It’s better than doing a stud partition on site and the end product stands out.”
