A BARRY-BASED youth organisation has scooped a coveted award in recognition of its work with young people in the Vale.
Multimedia youth organisation Vibe Experience Ltd, based on Holton Road – earned the National Participation Kitemark after members of the Vale Young Inspectors Team, including pupils from Cowbridge Comprehensive and St Clare's School, Porthcawl, visited Vibe and it projects over a number of weeks to assess their practices in line with the seven National Children and Young People’s Participation Standards.
These included Information, It’s Your Choice, No Discrimination, Respect, You Get Something Out Of It, Feedback and Improving How We Work.
Inspectors undertook observations of activities and projects, interviewed young people and staff, collected evidence and completed a final assessment report.
Dominique Patnett, projects manager for Vibe Experience said: “This is a great achievement for Vibe Experience and our projects Motion Control Dance, Swoosh, V-POD, Everyone's Future and Studio 41.
“We run regularly consultations, participation activities and a number of youth committees in which young people are empowered to play a key role in decision making processes, as well as making a difference in their local community. We are a voluntary sector organisation that really values the importance of young people's views, opinions and ideas. Over the last 13 years it is this very input that has shaped the Vibe organisation, keeping us up to date, expanding and enhancing our projects year after year. We would like to thank all the young people who have contributed to our projects, as well as the Vale Young Inspectors for spending time with our organisation. We look forward to maintaining the Participation Standards for years to come."
