Police helicopter searches for missing person at Barry Island

THE search for a missing person at Barry Island continued over the weekend following the discovery of a bag and personal items at Friars Point on Friday afternoon.
The police helicopter was despatched on Saturday afternoon and police officers have conducted "extensive enquiries" and searches of the area.
A South Wales Poilice spokesperson said: "South Wales Police is continuing enquiries to locate a missing person following the discovery of a rucksack containing personal items at Friar’s Point in Barry at around midday on Friday, September 20.
"Officers have conducted extensive enquiries and searches of the area which have so far proved negative.
Barry Island Coastguards have also been stood down until further information arises about the missing person.
Police are still continuing to conduct enquiries on land and will continue to do so overnight.
The police helicopter is no longer searching.
BARRY Dock's RNLI Lifeboat has also been called out to search the coast for a missing person.
The lifeboat has now been stood down and returned to the shore, with Barry Island Coastguards continuing the search.
A lifeboat spokesperson said: "The lifeboat was called out for a missing person after the police raised the alarm and asked them to launch at 2pm.
"They searched for about an hour before they were stood down.
"The coastguards are still investigating on land."
THE police helicopter is currently searching for a missing person at Barry Island after the discovery of a bag and personal items at Friars Point.
Police officers have been searching the area since midday this afternoon after they were alerted by a member of the public.
A South Wales Police spokesperson said that the search was ongoing.
“At midday today a bag and personal items were found at Friars Point,” they said.
“Officers are in the area making enquiries to identify and locate this person.”
Police added that they were concerned about the person’s welfare.
The South and East Wales Helicpops twitter page added: "At 1.20pm aircraft attended in the Barry area to assist officers in a coastal search for a missing person."
