ARTY students will benefit from a £325,000 art block planned for 2014.
Other Barry Comprehensive improvements, already carried out during the summer holidays, including the upgrading of the fire alarm system, costing £50,000, and the renewal of the flat roof covering to the main block, costing £105,000.
The Vale Council's cabinet approved an additional £120,000 for building works at the school, on Monday, September 9 - pending full council approval later this month.
If the funding is approved by the council, Barry Comprehensive will receive a total of £600,000 for repairs and improvements to the school premises.
Head teacher Gerard McNamara said: "We are delighted with the funding the council has given us for the building work.
"We've already had the roof done, which was excellent, and our fire alarm system has been upgraded to a modern specification.
"We've got seven boilers at the school and one of those has been replaced. We've also been told the control panel which controls all seven boilers is being renewed, which is excellent news.
"We are really grateful to the local authority for helping us to carry out the repairs and look forward to our new art block, which will hopefully be built next year."
