Health Watchdog seeks new members
12:01pm Wednesday 4th September 2013 in News
THE Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Community Health Council, which represents the interests of patients and the public in the NHS, is looking to recruit new members across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan area.
Community Health Councils (CHCs) are independent NHS watchdogs which act as the patients voice and scrutinise the operation of local health services in Wales. Members play an important role in influencing the way health services are planned and delivered in their area.
They are local people who act as the eyes and ears of the public, listening to their concerns and working with the health service to improve the quality of care.
Members are volunteers who are asked to give the equivalent of four to five hours a month, usually in short sessions of a few hours at a time. The CHC always works to peoples availability. Out-of-pocket expenses such as travel are reimbursed.
We are looking for people from all walks of life and of all ages the most important requirement is a genuine interest in improving health services for your community. Some key qualities include an understanding of local health issues and being able to work in a team and with a diverse range of people. Training will be offered.
Applications from under- represented groups including women, minority ethnic and disabled people are particularly welcomed and encouraged.
If you have a genuine interest in your local health service and would like to make a positive difference you can help by joining Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan CHC.
