BARRY Town Council will be holding an open day in the Merthyr Dyfan Chapel, in the grounds of Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery on Saturday (September 7) between 10am and 3pm, in conjunction with the Open Doors Project (European Heritage Days).
If you are researching your family history or are simply interested in the history of the cemetery and chapel, then why not come along?
There will be representatives from Glamorgan Family History, Vale Funeral Services, Welsh Genealogy Services and Glamorgan Archives. The council will make the records of burials in Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery available for inspection by members of the public, with the assistance of council staff and there will be staff available to assist with the location of graves.
Information on the history of the chapel and cemetery will be available from local councillors along with tours around the cemetery.
Refreshments will be available for a small donation to the Mayor’s charities (The JAM Fund and Ty Hapus).
