THERE were double celebrations at the Senior Health Shop Barry last week for The Ageing Well Project in Barry and the Friends and Neighbours group when Alun Cairns MP called in to the cafe to present a cheque for £2,360.44 from money he raised in April this year after successfully completing The London Marathon.
Cheers broke out for Alun who said how much he had enjoyed doing the marathon for the charities and admires all the hard work all the volunteers do in the shop and how much it is needed in the Vale.
Nona Hextor co-ordinator of the The Ageing Well Project said she was overwhelmed by the generosity shown and that the money will be used for the benefit of the project.
The Friends and Neighbours group who received half of the money said they were highly delighted to have been chosen. Gay Fifield co-ordinator of the group said it had been a pleasure to have helped raising sponsorship in the shop and how appreciative the members were.
When Alun asked what the monies would be spent on Gay said it will offset travel costs when members go on trips, and on a buffet for those who are unable to go on trips due to poor health or mobility.
Both Nona and Gay thanked Alun on behalf of the groups .
