Easter message from the Rev Dafydd Andrew Jones of the Presbyterian Church of Wales

The Easter message is simple and clear. God is love: self-giving love.
The meaning of life therefore is loving and being loved, serving and being served. The peace we all desire is found by loving. The characteristics of love are humility and service. The strength to love comes from prayer and faith; the cost of love is the cross and the and the vindication of love is the resurrection. The foundation of love is God himself and the objects of love are each one of us; indeed, His whole creation.
Yet it so often seems that humankind is incapable of love. Consider Syria, North Korea. And closer to home, we hear stories of brutal violence and crimes arising from selfishness every day.
But when we look at the reality that doesn’t make the news, we are reminded that costly love is the dynamic of life. Selfless love creates and sustains relationships of solidarity and participation. Its values go beyond the material, discovering the worth, value and dignity of each person.
The Easter message is about being liberated by the transforming, self-giving love of Jesus. Because he is alive, he goes ahead of us, both in the daily common chores of life and in our big life-changing decisions. Let us celebrate with joy and hope.
