Barry police to let youngsters know what’s occurrin’
2:30pm Friday 8th March 2013 in News
POLICE will be letting young people know ‘What’s Occurrin’ at a special event in Barry this Saturday.
Officers will join forces with local agencies for a specially designed interactive event, aimed at 12 to 18-year-olds, at The Hub, Barry YMCA, from 11am to 2pm.
The session will feature a number of stalls giving a range of information for young people about what is available in the town.
There will also be advice on careers, drugs and alcohol awareness and what is going on for young people around Barry.
Organisations supporting the event include the army, air and sea cadets, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, careers advice, Area 41, Inroads, the Youth Offending Team, The Vibe and police community support officers.
PCSO Jenny Meadows, who is coordinating the day, said: "We hope as many of Barry’s young people as possible come along on Saturday to see just how much there is to do in the town.
"Saturday will provide all those involved with an opportunity to inform and learn about what is available out there with regards to recreational organisations and what help there is concerning issues such as careers advice and possible drug and alcohol misuse."
She added: "Barry neighbourhood officers and the community safety team will be joining in and we are looking forward to meeting everyone who comes along and chatting to them."
