Ex-Liverpool star Jan Molby to appear at Barry charity event in aid of local girl

 A FUNDRAISING charity event featuring the football legend Jan Molby is set to be held in Barry later this month.

Money raised from the event will go towards seven-year-old Niamh Hurn, who suffers from a rare muscle condition and struggles to walk unaided.

During the night, which will be held at Barry Island Sports and Social Club on March 30, there will also be live music, a charity auction, a raffle of sports memorabilia and a buffet.

Ross Mackintosh, who has organised the event, said: "The evening will be with Liverpool and Ajax footballing legend Jan Molby. Jan will talk about his playing days and stories you wouldn't normally get to hear, and also do a question and answer session at the end.

"To be able to pick the brain of someone who played at the highest level and who played in one of the greatest sides on the planet at the time is going to be amazing. It's a must for any Liverpool fan but also a great night out for any football fan.

"A lot of tickets have been sold to supporters of all different clubs."

He added that proceeds from the charity auction would go towards the family of Ysgol Sant Curig pupil Niamh Hurn.

"Niamh has a condition called Hydrosyringomyelia which is basically a blockage within the fluid canal in the spine, causing nerves to be crushed.

"Niamh is waiting on a referral to Great Ormond Street Hospital to see if they can offer any further insight. So I would love to raise as much cash from the auction as we can to help Niamh out as much as possible.

"The auction will be a one off painting of Jan by talented local artist Lewis Giles. I saw Lewis's work on his Facebook page, 'Lewis Giles Paintings', which is brilliant and I really wanted to get his work involved.

"Also thanks to Gareth Jones of ABC designs for the canvas art for the raffle and room design.

"The evening is sponsored my Orion Teamwear."

"An Evening with Jan Molby" will be held on Saturday (March 30) at Barry Island Sports and Social club.

Tickets are £25 (standard) and £50 (VIP).
