A BOXING champion helped boost a Barry charity shop’s takings when he officially opened their store.

World light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly gave customers a ringside view when he and Ty Hafan user Tyler Lane and his family declared the Sully-based family hospice charity’s latest store open.

The Holton Road shop is the 22nd Ty Hafan shop in South Wales and the second in Barry.

Tyler’s mum, Lisa, 30, said: “It feels lovely to be opening the shop. Tyler was really excited. He’s been up all night. Ty Hafan has helped us in every way.

“When he goes there, it gives us a break and he loves it.

“He always asks when he is going next.”

Tyler, who has cerebral palsy, epilepsy and is registered blind, first visited the hospice in Sully in 2003 and Cleverly, a keen supporter of Ty Hafan, said he was honoured to be opening the shop.

He said: “Ty Hafan is an amazing charity which makes such a difference to so many people’s lives. I am thrilled to be helping out with the official opening.”

The shop is looking for donations of good-quality clothing, bric-a-brac, toys and DVDs to sell in the shop, as well as searching for volunteers to work there.
