A BARRY fitness fanatic has set up his own 'boot camp' in a bid to get others fit.

Nicky Palmer, of Dudley Place, recently launched Nicky Palmer Fitness and is encouraging local people to get involved.

Barry Dock lifeboat volunteer Nicky, who completed his first Ironman in aid of the RNLI last year, hopes that the sessions he runs will help people get fitter, lose weight and tone up.

"I have always been interested in fitness and I train a lot, but I don't like training in a gym as I find it boring," he said.

"I thought I would start something that's different using the natural environment, hills, sand and some small equipment."

Sessions take place at Barry Island and the Knap, and include dynamic, resistance and interval training.

Nicky, who is awaiting his results to become a qualified personal trainer, said that the classes offer something different.

"Every session is different and I tailor it to each person," he said.

"The people that have come so far have loved it and keep coming back.

"We had one session in the sleet and snow but people still turned up!"

He added: "We have some 60-year-olds come and if they can't lift the tyres I give them a different alternative suitable for them."
