Website on Wales schools unveiled

PARENTS in Wales can find out more about how their child’s school operates and is performing via a new website launched by the Welsh Government today.

The website, which is called mylocalschool.wales.gov.uk, contains hundreds of thousands of pieces of data providing an accessible, valuable information portal for parents and carers and those interested in school education statistics inWales.

The site offers the chance to view a range of information about all maintained schools, such as the type of school it is and how many pupils and teachers it has.

It will also give performance information at foundation phase, key stage 2 and 3, GCSE and A-level. Banding and underlying banding indicators are also presented, along with financial information such as school expenditure per school and a link to the most recent Estyn report.

Education minister Leighton Andrews said: “Data of this kind is becoming more readily available. The site gives parents a clearer picture of how schools are performing.

“Improving openness and transparency of school statistics will also allow parents to have more informed discussions about raising standards in our schools.

“We want to encourage parents to engage in the school improvement debate and so we are providing them with the information to do so.”

Yes, its easy to see the results and sadly our school is under performing. Its based around the number of free school meals which dictates the level of deprivation????? Hopefully this will shock some parents compared with some schools which are reaching 100% and excellent Eystn reports. Time to 'kick some butt' I think and in particular the heads should be brought to account. Shame we cant sack some of the averagely poor teachers too but that the unions who have done nothing to improve schools. What with teacher training, PP time, and endless training the standard of teaching doesnt seem to have improved since the 80's. Us parents do get reports from the parents who do give up their free time to assist the school and mostly the reports come back very negative. Teaching assistants seem to come back more favourable and in some classes they seem to do more!
