Free advice for Vale residents on heating home

AS PART of Health Challenge Vale, residents of the Vale of Glamorgan who find it hard to heat their homes are being invited to come and talk to Nest on Tuesday, February 12, between 9am and 3pm, at Barry Market, in Holton Road, Barry, to see what they can do to make their homes warmer and more efficient.

Many households in the Vale of Glamorgan have already benefited from the Welsh Government’s Nest scheme. Nest provides all householders in Wales with advice via a Freephone number on saving energy, money management, as well as making sure people are on the best fuel tariff for them and whether they’re entitled to any benefits to boost their income. Nest advisors can also provide initial guidance on energy efficiency schemes across Wales that offer home improvements at no cost or low cost to the householder.

The scheme, which is managed by British Gas, offers home improvements at no cost to applicants who own or privately rent their home, live in a property that is very energy inefficient and receive a means tested state benefit.

Following a visit to check eligibility, a Nest assessor will recommend a tailored package of improvements to help make the property warmer and save money on energy bills. These may include a new central heating boiler, loft insulation, cavity wall or solid wall insulation, draught proofing for doors and windows or renewable energy.

Lee Parry, head of Nest, said: “With the recent cold weather hitting the Vale, this is a great opportunity for people to discuss the help available provided by the Nest scheme to make homes warmer and more efficient.”

“We are committed to helping those in most need heat their homes for less.

“A lot of people who are struggling to heat their homes may not even realise the difference that making small changes can make, for example, just insulating a loft could save up to £145 a year on heating bills.”

To find out if you are eligible for Nest and for more information about the scheme, come along to the event or contact Freephone 0808 808 2244 and speak to one of the Nest advisors.
