THE Minister for Regeneration in Wales, Huw Lewis AM, met with Jane Hutt AM last week to update on the latest round of regeneration funding announcements and developments.

Jane Hutt said that the Minister was positive about future prospects for the regeneration of Barry beyond the first three years of £9m funding which was announced in March 2010, and said that the regeneration of Barry was only just beginning.

He pointed to the fact that Barry is the youngest regeneration area in Wales and as a coastal town this puts Barry in a favourable position for future Welsh Government funding.

He was particularly positive about the engagement of the private sector such as the Premier Inn and was keen to visit Barry again soon to emphasise to the people and businesses of the town they should feel confident about the future.

Jane Hutt said: "Welsh Government Minister Huw Lewis, has visited Barry on many occasions to give his strong support for the regeneration of Barry.

"His words have been matched with his commitment to £6.5million of funding over the past three years which has already made a difference across the town with a further £3.3m announced recently.

"He has accepted my invitation to visit Barry again to meet with the Vale Council and partners on the Regeneration Board and was keen to respond to the positive responses to his consultation on the future direction of Regeneration priorities in Wales. It was clear that Barry stands in a very good place in his thinking."
