AT a memorable fundraising event in All Saints Church Hall before Christmas, the Barry Barnardo's Helper Group was praised by Vale AM Jane Hutt and by the charity, for their long-standing service in raising funds for needy children.

The group was set up in 1930 and the present membership of 10 volunteers has given 224 years of service.

June Davies has given 51 years of service and she was honoured at the event by the Barnardo's organiser, Alison Molyneux.

The event was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of the Vale of Glamorgan, Cllr Eric and Mrs Heather Hacker, as well as Jane Hutt AM and the Town Mayor, Cllr Les Sword.

Ms Hutt said: "The services provided by Barnardo's are needed more than ever, and the Barry Helpers' Group has made a major and longstanding contribution to raising funds for these services for children and young people in Wales.

"I congratulate them all, especially the longest serving volunteer June Davies."
