Man arrested on suspicion of attempted abduction

POLICE investigating a number of 'suspicious incidents' in Barry and Penarth have arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of attempted abduction.

The man, from the Barry area, was arrested following a police appeal for information, after three women and a teenage girl were allegedly approached on Sunday and Monday, January 6 and 7.

Police had appealed for public help in tracing a man, who was driving an old, green Ford Fiesta, after reports of four separate incidents.

The first was just before 12.30pm on Sunday, January 6, when a 14-year-old girl was allegedly approached on Rectory Road, Penarth; this was followed the next day (Monday) at 9.15am when a 25-year-old woman was allegedly approached on Redlands Road, Penarth.

Later that day (January 7) a 21-year-old woman was allegedly approached at 7.30pm on Winston Road in Barry; and then at 9.15pm on Fern Drive in Barry a 22-year-old woman was allegedly approached.

Police say the arrest was made following information supplied to them by a member of the public, who had seen the appeal.

Officers say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incidents.
