Sully Sports FC appeal after trespassing teams ruin pitch

SULLY Sports football club have blasted two rogue teams who played an authorised game on one of their pitches last week - causing “untold damage”.

A club spokesperson said they were “dismayed at the prearranged act of needless vandalism” - which occured at approximately 2pm on Thursday December 27 - and were determined to make a stand on the issue.

“This is an issue which has no doubt affected many pitches both private and council-run in the Vale during an abnormally wet winter,” said the spokesperson.

The two teams - one wearing a blue kit and the other red - played a full hour and a half game after climbing the locked gates to access the private site.

It means the pitch - which the club had not played on for two weeks previously to protect it following the heavy rainfall - will be out of action for many more weeks, leaving junior players with little option but to travel away from the club to play their upcoming matches.

Fortunately the club’s CCTV camera was able to capture the faces of many of the players and their car registration numbers.

The club’s solicitor is said to be taking steps to identify the culprits before passing on the information to the appropriate authorities.

The spokesperson added: “If your car was in the car park innocently between 2pm and 4pm then please ring the club to eliminate your vehicle from our report.

“We also encourage the players or organisers of the game to come forward, as no doubt they have played football in the area and will be recognised by the many current and ex managers of the club that will be viewing the tapes.”

Anyone with information about the incident can contact the club on 07565 549783.
