Latest Welsh Government secondary school bandings published
12:00pm Monday 31st December 2012 in News
THE Welsh Government has published new secondary schools bandings which, launched last year, help identify schools which need support and those which others can learn from.
The bandings are based on attainment and attendance data and take account of the school’s catchment. Band 1 schools are performing well and Band 5 schools need to improve.
The new bandings for secondary schools in the Vale are:
St Richard Gwyn High and Stanwell Comprehensive (1);
Cowbridge Comprehensive (2);
Barry Comprehensive, Bryn Hafren Comprehensive and St Cyres Comprehensive (3);
Llantwit Major Comprehensive and Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg (4).
Coun Chris Elmore, Vale Cabinet Member for Education, said: "I am very pleased to see that the improved GCSE results at Barry Comprehensive and St Richard Gwyn schools and better attendance at Stanwell have been reflected in their new bandings.
"I know that Bryn Hafren and Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg will be working hard with our support to increase their performance in future years."
