SINGER and presenter Mark Evans’ charity single Tell My Father has raised more than £30,000 for The Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal fund – and he recently heard first-hand from a former Barry Island soldier who was seriously injured in Afghanistan just how the appeal is helping.

Mark released the fundraising double single with the Band of the Welsh Guards in March, with support track Men of Harlech.

The single was made with the generous support of many artists and technicians, all of whom gave their time and talents for free in order to raise funds for the Appeal Fund, and Tell My Father reached number 1 in the Singles and Military charts.

Dale Leach from Barry Island, pictured with Mark, joined the Welsh guards in 2004, and in June 2009 his jackal was hit by an IED. He was sent home with serious injuries and through the support of the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal, he has rebuilt his life.

Mark said: “Dale told me from his first hand experience about how the monies raised have helped him and others to rebuild their lives and support their families.

“What people don’t realise is that the appeal helps with converting homes and running courses to rebuild soldiers’ lives.”

Mark has successfully raised more than £30,000 to date for the fund, and performed at the recent Welsh Guards homecoming parade in Cardiff. He is currently working on his new album, which will be out next year.
