MEDICAL drama programme makers have said they would like to return to Barry Island - despite becoming a casualty of the weather last month.

Casualty cast and crew spent three days filming on Friars Point, Marco's CafŽ, Whitmore Bay, and other Island-based locations in what turned out to be a shoot hampered by rain.

The fictional serial, which has run for 26 series, is set in Holby city and used to be filmed in Bristol and surrounding areas.

But now, following the relocation of the BBC's drama department, it has joined the list of productions such as Gavin and Stacey, Being Human, Torchwood, Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures, clamoring to get a slice of Island life.

The Barry filmed episode features paramedics Jeff and Dixie played by Matt Bardock and Jane Hazlegrove.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "Barry Island created a perfect backdrop for this story.

"We wanted a waterfront setting as a key scene involves a character in a dangerous situation in the water.

"When we were based in Bristol we regularly used settings from across the South West of England and South Wales, including rivers, beaches and mountains, to create dramatic visuals and to fit in with the varied storylines that Casualty portrays.

"The only challenge we have had is the weather and because our cast have to go in to the water, it has been a little chilly!"

She added: "It has been fantastic and while we don't have any immediate plans to return, we wouldn't hesitate in coming back for another episode."

The episode is scheduled to be broadcast in February next year.
