Former Barry woman celebrates 100th birthday

A FORMER Barry woman celebrated her 100th birthday last week (October 19) with fond memories of family connections with the town.
Mona Smith, formerly Davies, moved to the town aged 14 and married Christopher Smith at All Saints Church, Barry, in 1938 with the reception at The Barry Hotel.
The family moved to Coventry in 1950.
The great grandmother-of-eight's father was Albert Price Davies who worked on the railways and for some of the time, in a railway office in Barry.
Mona's brother was Len Davies of the Handyman Shop in High Street, Barry where he ran the shop with his wife Nira for many years.
Mona's mother, Ethel Davies, formerly Addicott, lived in Harbour Road for many years and Ben Lobley lodged with her there.
Mr Lobley was well known in Barry as an impresario involved in Bindels, classical music and cinemas.
