Former Barry school pupil celebrates half marathon success

ANIMATED: Laura Rispoli.
A FORMER Bryn Hafren pupil has chalked up another running success following her participation in the Cardiff Half marathon.
40-year-old Laura Rispoli, formerly of St Paul's Avenue, Barry, completed her second 13.2 mile run in tribute to her brother Shaun Andrews, who died aged 34, in September 2007.
Mum-of-one Laura, running in aid of Barnardo's Cymru, completed the run in 1hr 55 minutes and will attempt the Richmond upon Thames 10-mile race this Saturday, October 21.
Laura said: "There were so many positives that I can hardly remember.
"The atmosphere was incredible and the race was one of the best organised races I've run.
"The route was very scenic and brought back lots of memories. I felt a bit tearful when I got to Penarth marina as I suddenly remembered why I was running, for my brother, and wished he was there to support me!
She added: "Cardiff was always going to be the special race as it holds so many memories.
"Even though I've still got another race this Sunday, I feel that Cardiff Half has filled in so many gaps in my life, and by giving something to Barnardo's in my brothers name I feel that he was a part of it with me!
"I wish I could do more to help the kids growing up in Wales and find other ways to steer them away from drugs!
"I think if kids get involved in sports at an early age then they are less likely to turn to drugs as a boredom therapy.
"There are so many sports to choose from so there should be something for everyone.
"More needs to be done in schools to encourage children to do athletics, tennis, football etc and for kids to blossom from it!!
