ON CAMERA: PC Teresa Blainey and PC Darran Fenton checking traffic speed in Gibbonsdown.

THE Neighbourhood Police Team in Gibbonsdown has been focusing on PACT priorities in the ward by setting up mobile speed camera stations.

The team monitored in excess of 600 vehicles in speeding hotspots around the area.

Community members in the Gibbonsdown area have raised speeding at Skomer Road, Merthyr Dyfan Road and St Brides Way as being of particular concern.

To help tackle this problem, PC Darran Fenton and PC Teresa Blainey of the Gibbonsdown NPT ward have been checking traffic speed using special hand-held speed guns at key locations within the community.

As a result of the two-hour operation, police issued eight verbal warnings and two Fixed Penalty Notices. Information sheets were also handed out to drivers explaining that speeding in the area has been identified as a PACT priority.

PC Darran Fenton said: "The recent PACT meeting in Gibbonsdown identified speeding in the area as a key priority to be addressed.

"We will continue to use the mobile camera at various locations in the ward to deter speeding traffic and improve road safety for pedestrians, motorists and other road users."
