Drug arrests in Barry
POLICE in Barry are celebrating after a crackdown on drug dealers led to a number of 'significant' arrests over the past two weeks.
The Vale of Glamorgan Drugs Team in the town recovered a large quantity of cannabis - as much as £15,000 worth in one single operation - as well as quantities of heroin and amphetamines.
Among those arrested was a 36-year-old man from the Barry area who was subsequently charged with possession and intent to supply Class C drug cannabis.
Two men, one aged 36 and the other aged 34 - both from the Barry area, have been charged with possession of Class A drug heroin with intent to supply.
Another significant arrest involved a 41-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, who were arrested during Operation Jaguar.
They have been charged with possession with intent to supply Class C drugs and have been released on bail.
Sergeant Julian Kerslake of the Barry Drugs Team, said: "In the past three weeks we have made 17 arrests in the Vale of Glamorgan.
"The possession and supply of drugs will not be tolerated and we will continue to be vigilant - anyone involved in such criminal activity will be found and arrested."
Superintendent Dave Dando, Divisional Commander for the Vale of Glamorgan, said: "The work of the drugs team in the Vale has built upon the success of Operation Titan earlier in the year, and is the result of some excellent investigative work by the team.
"The supply of drugs in our community is a menace which will not be tolerated.
"This unlawful behaviour will be met with a stern response and we will continue to remove these criminals from our streets.
"Illegal drugs are a blight our society," he added.
"They cause major problems to the families of those who use them as well as to the general public, as many drug users resort to crime in order to fund their habit.
"By removing the supply, we should also benefit from a knock-on effect in the overall levels of crime in our community, and continue to make the Vale of Glamorgan a safe place to live."
