TOP bands are set to perform on Sunday, October 2, in tribute to one of Barry's most famous musicians.

Lined-up will be Barry band As Beens, Freeway, Sugarline, Outback, Calling Madison and Route 48. All this has been made possible thanks to the sponsorship of Ewemove Glamorgan.

As Beens will head onto stage for a one-off performance in tribute to Neil Lewis, with the fundraiser becoming an annual event in the town.

As Beens will perform with their original line-up of Darren Sheppard, Andy Johnson, Nick Evans, Dave Owens and Boofy Clemo who formed the band 30 years ago.

The afternoon’s entertainment, which starts at 3pm and will be finished by 9pm, has an act for every musical taste.

Freeway will get the party started with returning Mark Cowley on drums, axe man Phil Allen, Rob 'Squeek' Weekly on the ivories, Neil Griffiths guesting on bass along with frontman Dave Bowen.

Sugarline, who feature singer/guitarist Richie Long (minus the spandex and Morgan Jaxx alter ego) lead bassist Dave 'Shaggy' Hopkin, Nigel ‘Deadman’ Evans, Sam 'Fingers’ Osbourne and Rhys 'Porkpie' Lewis, will be playing for the first time in 11 years.

Whilst Route 48 who performed last year are making their return, Outback, fresh from July’s GlastonBarry and Calling Madison, who last played at the tribute gig in 2009, add to the local line-up.

Neil’s son Rhys organises the charity event which will see proceeds split between Breast Cancer UK, Guide Dogs UK, The Helana Green Fund and British Tinnitus Association

He said: "It was a big ask this year. So much work and organisation has gone into re-uniting these bands on all parts.

"It’ s also special as the gig takes place the day after dad’s birthday so we can all raise a glass. I’m especially excited to see The As Beens play again as they were such a huge musical influence on me growing up. It’ll be a great laugh getting together with the Sugarline boys too.

"As per usual everybody has been so helpful and the support I’ve had from the musicians, ticket vendors and our sponsor Ewemove Glamorgan has blown me away".

Freeway will kick off proceedings at 3pm at Barry Island Sports and Social Club and 70 per cent of the tickets have already been sold.
