THE Penarth Acoustic Club strums and finger picks its way toward the end of 2015 with a terrific line-up of seasoned performers on Friday, December 18, at the Conservative Club, Penarth.

Making a return visit by popular demand will be Bob Woodley, a singer/songwriter whose involvement with the South Wales music scene spans many years. A talented multi-instrumentalist, Bob draws his inspiration from many genres including folk, blues, Celtic, jazz and protest, delivering his songs with sensitivity and passion whilst engaging his audience with an easy, conversational humour.

Now resident in Nova Scotia, he has recently published Tunes from the Lake, an exploration of Welsh and Cape Breton culture accompanied by a collection of his tunes. His lively and polished performance last year was very well received and his reappearance eagerly anticipated.

Also appearing will be Paul and Jean Godden, both long standing mainstays of the five piece band Ponchartrain. Their musical career began in the 1970s when they played and sang around the folk/blues clubs of Bristol and London.

From Roots Blues to R&B and Country/Rockabilly to Bluegrass they have performed with numerous bands throughout the years. In addition to radio and TV work they have backed and supported the likes of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Jo-Anne Kelly and Flaco Jimenez.

Paul has also worked closely with the Cardiff based Rockabilly band The Rimshots and has toured and recorded with Van Morrison, appearing on two of his albums, You win Again and Pay the Devil.

Welsh film and television actor Wil Thomas (Twin Town, Mr. Nice, Gavin and Stacey) will also be on hand to read from A Child’s Christmas in Wales and other works by Dylan Thomas.

“Wil was with us when we launched the club just over a year ago”, said co-founder Phil Nedin, “and he really helped to establish the spoken word as an integral and much enjoyed part of the evening’s entertainment. We are absolutely delighted to welcome him back.”

Supporting the guest performers will be the club’s hosts together with a special appearance by Alice Turner on vocals and fiddle.

Doors will open at 7.30pm for performances to begin at 8.15pm. Tickets cost £5 and are available from Pencerdd Music, Station Approach and Griffin Books, Windsor Road, Penarth.
