AMELIA Trust Farm will be taking part in the tenth Open Farm Sunday on June 7.

This annual event organised by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), offers a great way for people to find out more about where their food comes from, talk to the farmers who produce it and get up close and personal with the countryside.

At Amelia Trust Farm you will be able to have a guided tour of the farm and see the animals, have the chance to explore a shepherd’s lambing tool kit and visit their farm shop and take a look at the local produce.

Farmer Elizabeth Gibbon said: “Amelia Trust is both a Care Farm and a working farm. As a Care farm, we provide educational services to vulnerable groups of people, providing a programme of farming related activities. We are set in 160 acres of countryside, which includes 28 acres of woodlands and a variety of habitats.

“We have a range of animals on the farm, but our main livestock is sheep – at the moment we lamb around 150 (total flock is around 300). We also farm cattle, poultry and pigs. We are always busy on our farm, as it is home to a large variety of animals; we care for goats, ducks, rabbits, cats, ferrets and many more. We have four ponds, but farming can be challenging with our clay soil!

“The core objective of the Amelia Trust is to support and educate vulnerable and disadvantaged young people. We provide school intervention and an alternative curriculum.”

Amelia Trust Farm will be open from 10am until 6pm on the day and for more information about Open Farm Sunday please visit farmsunday.org.
