PENARTH Operatic and Dramatic Society will be performing The Railway Children at The Paget Rooms from Wednesday, March 25 to Friday 27.

The production is a story about three children, Roberta, Phyllis and Peter, who live in a respectable suburb with their mother and father and a cook and servants until one day great disgrace and poverty befalls them.

Their father is taken away to prison and they have to move to a poor cottage in the country near a railway line.

Mother writes stories to earn what little they live on and they get used to being poor.

They develop the habit of waving to the train and one person in particular eventually gets to know them, and helps them out in various ways.

Along the way they meet the Perks family and Mr Szczepansky, a Russian man who needs their help and through these friendships the children discover the meaning of poverty and equality.

PODS will be bringing their younger members to the stage in the show.

Tickets cost £10 for adults, £9 for concessions, £8 for children or £32 for a family ticket (online only for two adults and two children).

Tickets are available from www.pods-penarth.org, ticketsecretary@pods-penarth.org, Tenovus, 23 Windsor Road or from Brian Gardener on 02920 712260.
