ICONIC band the Manic Street Preachers have announced details of their 13th studio album, which was recorded near Newport.

Entitled Resistance Is Futile, the album marks the the first new recordings from the band, who grew up in Blackwood, in four years and will be released on April 6, 2018.

In a statement the band described the album, which was recorded at their new Door to the River studio near Newport, as “obsessively melodic”.

They added the album explores themes including “memory and loss, forgotten history, confused reality and art as a hiding place and inspiration”.

“After delay and difficulties getting started, the record has come together really quickly over the last few months through a surge of creativity and some old-school hard work,” the statement added.

To coincide with the album’s release, the band have announced a UK tour with support from The Coral.

Welsh dates include Llandudno’s Venue Cymru Arena on May 1 and Cardiff Motorpoint Arena on May 5.

Tickets go on sale at 8.30am on Friday, November 24, with early access tickets are available for those who pre-order the album.
