A HERO of Our Time, the last ballet in the Bolshoi's cinema season this spring, will be screened live from Moscow at Chepstow’s Drill Hall on April 9.

A new production that is unique to the company, A Hero of Our Time has only been seen on its Moscow stage. Adapted from a masterpiece of Russian literature by Mikhail Lermontov, it relates the romantic encounters and heart-breaking betrayals of larger-than-life hero Pechorin. But is he a real hero or is he just a man like any other? Pechorin is a young officer who embarks on a momentous journey across the majestic mountains of the Caucasus, on a path set by his passions. Disillusioned and careless, he inflicts pain upon himself and the women around him.

Three of the five stories that make up the novel, have been chosen for the ballet, and in each one Pechorin is quite different, changed by circumstance and age. His character is portrayed musically by a particular musical instrument, made visible to the audience by being played on stage.

Tickets can be booked in advance, from Chepstow Museum on 01291 625981. The Museum is closed this week for essential building works but will be open by Saturday, April 8.
