CARDIFF Philharmonic Orchestra will be playing romantic music as part of their St Valentine's Day Special Concert on Tuesday, February 14.

Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra’s programme opens with Manuel de Falla’s music from his ballet Love the Magician, the most famous section of which is the Ritual Fire Dance.

Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto number one will also be featuring in the concert. Sharing the stage is young violinist Benjamin Baker, who has previously performed concertos by Brahms and Tchaikovsky with the orchestra.

Benjamin recently won first prize at the Young Concert Artists Auditions at Merkin Concert Hall in New York beating more than 160 applicants from 20 countries.

The concert closes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony number five, which has been an audience favourite since it premiered.

As an added bonus, St David's Hall will be running three competitions for concert-goers to enter. All three competitions will offer £50 vouchers to spend at a Cardiff restaurant.

Winning entries to the competition will be read out by conductor Michael Bell at the Valentine's concert.
