WELSH harpist Catrin Finch joins forces with Colombian band Cimarron at Newport’s The Riverfront on Saturday, March 13, from 7.30pm.
This popular show, celebrating the harp music of both Wales and Colombia, returns after the great response to two sell-out shows in 2009 and Cimarron’s triumphant set at Womad festival.
From the cattle-rearing plains of rural Colombia on the Orinoco delta, Cimarron make wild, untamed joropo music found in one of the world’s most untouched regions.
Rooted in a deep peasant tradition defined by the mestizo mixed heritage of African, Spanish and indigenous cultures, they are led by composer Carlos Rojas.
Since Finch first met Cimarron in Caernarfon in 2007 to exchange traditional Welsh and Colombian tunes, their musical chemistry has delighted audiences.
Described as ‘The Queen of Harps’, Finch is a highly respected musician.
