GEORGE'S Marvellous Medicine is being brought to the New Theatre stage this October.

The stage version has been adapted by children's dramatist David Wood, and will be performed from Tuesday, October 25 to Saturday, October 29.

First published in 1981 George’s Marvellous Medicine is one of Roald Dahl’s funniest stories all about a young boy who makes a marvellous new medicine to cure his grandmother of her terrifying temper. But when his grandmother drinks his special new potion the results are explosive and the most incredible things begin to happen - it’s the start of George’s amazing adventure.

George’s Marvellous Medicine has Ed Thorpe in the title role with the part of Granny played by actress Deborah Vale whose twin sister, Tessa will play her daughter, George’s mum, in the production. Other roles are taken by Tom Eyklehof (chicken) and Richard Mullins (dad).

Roald Dahl was born on September 13, 1916, in Llandaff. Over his decades-long writing career Dahl wrote 19 children's books, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG and Fantastic Mr Fox.

Since 1992 The Birmingham Stage Company have produced more Dahl shows than any other company in the world. Their recent shows here have included Horrible Histories and the world premiere of Gangsta Granny by David Walliams. This version of George’s Marvellous Medicine is adapted by David Wood.

BSC’s founder and actor/manager, Neal Foster, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating Roald Dahl’s centenary with this special production of one of his most popular stories”
