AN EXHIBITION called A Passion for the Ephemeral will be on display at West Wharf Gallery, Cardiff from May 26 to June 25.

Recent work by David Gould and Geoff Davies will be on display.

David Gould and Geoff Davies studied at the Royal College of Art in London in the late 1960s, and have both retired from long careers as lecturers on the foundation course in art and design at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (now Cardiff Metropolitan University), and now dedicate themselves full time to their creative work.

They work in a number of different ways, although in both cases their practice is centred on painting, supplemented by experimental approaches to photography and digital processing of images, as well as printing (Geoff Davies) and casting surfaces into bas relief (David Gould).

In this exhibition of work done since they retired, they demonstrate their enthusiasm for ephemera-for fleeting, inconsequential moments of time, and the discarded, decayed or soon forgotten elements of the natural and man-made worlds, found by chance, as indicated by the exhibition’s title.

Flowers, leaves and printed ephemera are Geoff Davies’ principal subjects, while David Gould chooses landscape and still life subjects, painted directly from nature, notably fruit and derelict discarded boots, as well as images of swimmers, and more abstract work which assembles together multiple casts of small mechanical components.

Both have exhibited extensively in Cardiff, London and the UK, and overseas, and their work can be seen online at davidpaulgould.co.uk and geoffreydavies.co.uk.

The exhibition will run from 10am to 5pm on Thursdays to Saturdays only at the West Wharf Gallery, on the top floor above Jacobs Market, West Canal Wharf, Cardiff.
