VALEWAYS will host the 2016 Vale of Glamorgan Walking Festival in May to celebrate the charity’s 20th birthday year.

Supported by the Vale of Glamorgan and Barry Town Councils, residents and visitors are welcome to join in on a host of themed walks through coastal paths and country lanes.

From May 19 to 22, there will be a trail for people who are interested in wildlife, geology, family fun, art, heritage and history or just walking.

“There’s so much variety; we’ll be hosting two events which harmonise, as it were, with the Vale Music Festival; so you can start or finish your walk with a concert” says Valeways chairman, Phil Gibbins.

“Or if you’ve always wanted to wander where the dinosaurs roamed, you get your chance with a guided geological trail at Lavernock, a big favourite.”

Other highlights include a bi-lingual Welsh/English Family Fun Trail and a bird-spotting session around Cosmeston. There’ll be plenty of history and heritage events, and, for something completely different, there’s the entirely self-explanatory Vale Ale Trail.

The guided walks are completely free – they range from under two miles to over eight miles, everyone is welcome, there’s no need to book just turn up and go.

“People should check the mileage of the walk, to ensure they’ll be comfortable with completing it.” says Phil.

“And, of course, we do tell people to wear appropriate footwear and come equipped for rain or shine. Then, just enjoy spectacular landscape, stories of the Vale, and friendly company.

“We had a great turnout last year, and this year - when we reach the grand old age of 20 – we hope for record participation.”
