JOIN author Ena Niedergang as she discusses her book, Wales China - 250 Years of History - at Glamorgan Archives on Tuesday, April 12.

This is the first book of its kind to record the histories of the two countries over the last 250 years and into the 21st century. It was researched over a period of 20 years and took the author to China, Hong Kong, Macau and, of course, around Wales.

It records the Welsh in China but also the Chinese who have made Wales their home.

Wales China - 250 Years of History highlights the historical links between two ancient nations and cultures. The author, Ena Niedergang, sets out to recognise the remarkable people and events that have bound these two nations together.

This rich history is both varied and, in many cases, has proved to be significant to the evolution of the "Dragon Nations". Such a contribution towards this history included that made by missionaries, the military, coalminers, governors, traders, a clockmaker and on and on.

In terms of setting out this history it was important to record people, events, plaques, memorials and gravestones, items in museums, art galleries, libraries, and stately homes, etc. It was also important to record the history of Wales and China in literature, poetry, diaries, and newspapers.

There is an urgency to save this rich history between Wales and China and it was vital to bring all this knowledge together before it became lost or forgotten. The history of the Welsh in America and Australia has been written about, but no one, to date, has recorded and brought together the historical relationship between Wales and China.

Wales China - 250 Years of History sets out to chronicle the unique history and contribution made by two ancient and fascinating nations.
