CERDDORFA Dinas Powys Orchestra are very pleased to be performing once again as part of the Dinas Powys Music Festival.

This year their concert will be within a pre-festival weekend in April, prior to the start of the Dinas Powys Music Festival in May.

The choir and leader Simon Carter hope that all friends and supporters, old and new, will join them for their first concert of 2016, which will take place on Sunday, April 24 at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall, Britway Road, Dinas Powys.

The orchestra is extremely pleased to welcome back ‘cellist Ben Tarlton, son of musical director Antony Tarlton. Ben was born in 1995 and was a student at Llantwit Major Comprehensive School.

In January 2011 he won a place at the specialist Yehudi Menuhin Music School to study the ‘cello. Whilst there he performed in Zurich, the Yehudi Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, Switzerland and in London’s Wigmore Hall and Guildhall.

Since September 2014 he has continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama receiving a bursary from the GSMD for each of his first two years of study.

In May he will represent the school at the Piatigorsky International Cello Festival in Los Angeles where, as well as attending the festival, he will be one of the students performing in master classes.

This year, Ben will be performing Schumann's ‘Cello Concerto with the Dinas Powys Orchestra.

The programme will also include: Mendelssohn: Hebridean Overture (Fingal’s Cave) and Mozart: Symphony no.41 Jupiter.
