NICOLAS Peros Ballet serves up a Christmas delight with their production of The Nutcracker at the Memorial Hall Barry.

Dance students of all ages from across Barry, the Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff, recently took part in a special production of The Nutcracker staged by leading local dance school, Nicola Peros Ballet. The production was held at the Memorial Hall Barry with a full audience in attendance.

The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the story The Nutcracker and the King of Mice written by ETA Hoffman and set to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The story is of a young German girl, Clara who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King or Rat King as he appears in some productions.

The leading roles of Clara and the Nutcracker Prince were ably danced by students Caitlin Coles and John Hale. John is one of Nicola’s mature students and he attends her weekly classes for adults in Cardiff.

The spectacular costumes for the performance were made by Linda Morgan-Grove.

An exciting evening of dance was topped off with a raffle and the auctioning of the rugby ball that was used in the Wales vs England match at this year’s Rugby World Cup. The proceeds from the evening will be used to help young students at the school with their dance training.

Nicola teaches at St Nicholas Hall in Barry and in Cowbridge Road in Cardiff with classes for both children and adults. With an emphasis on developing good technique, her classes follow the RAD Syllabus through all the grades up to intermediate and advanced levels. She is rapidly acquiring a reputation for turning out good dancers.

A former pupil, 12-year-old Maisie French is currently in her second year at White Lodge, the junior section of the Royal Ballet School and is herself currently dancing in the Covent Garden production of The Nutcracker that was recently screened live across cinemas globally around the world.

Nicola has several students on Associate Programmes with the Royal Ballet School and Ballet Cymru and some of her students have also taken part in National Youth Ballet productions. Nicola Peros Ballet has been chosen to take part in the Lord mayor of Cardiff’s matinee at the St David’s Hall in Cardiff on February 28, 2016. Tickets are on sale now from the box office at St David’s Hall.
