THE dancers who make up the cast of Dirty Dancing are fabulous.

There is no doubting their mesmerising skills which drew a standing ovation from the appreciative audience at Wales Millennium Centre last night.

The performance is hailed as 'The classic story on stage' and while the script closely follows the story of the film, made famous by the fabulous Patrick Swayze, it doesn't set you on fire.

I think it's trying a bit too hard to toe the line instead of being a sexy interpretation of what is essentially a love story.

However you are soon caught up in the tale of the innocent 'Baby' played beautifully by Roseanna Frascona who falls in love with dancer Johnny Castle, played by Gareth Bailey, who is a truly great dancer.

But for me the dancer who stole the show was Claire Rogers who plays Penny Johnson, the lady with a whole lot of trouble on her plate.

She is pregnant and her and Johnny's chance of stardom hits the rocks until she shows Baby how to take her place.

This girl can dance and whenever she took to the stage she absolutely owned it.

Coupled with the great score with hit songs such as Be My Baby, (I've had) the Time of My Life, Do You Love Me? plus the manic Wipe Out will have you singing along.

We were all waiting for the famous 'lift' and were not disappointed in the final scene which had the audience cheering and clapping.

If you love the film and the music that goes with it, then you will enjoy this show.

The run ends on March 28. For tickets and performance times log on to wmc.org.uk or call 02920 636464.
