FOLLOWING the Penarth Operatic & Dramatic Society’s (PODS) brilliant and successful Christmas pantomime, The Snow Queen, the Society is now ready for their next two productions.

They have lined up their March play, The Railway Children, and the May musical, Hot Mikado.

PODS are known for the high standards of their productions and are an award winning company.

The Railway Children will be performed at the Paget Rooms from Wednesday, March 25 until Saturday 28. The show is about a family who have been forced to uproot themselves from London, following their beloved father having been wrongly and secretly taken away from them.

The three children, with their mother, make a new home in the countryside, where their lives revolve around the local railway station.

Here, they become embroiled in an adventure with the six children of the railway porter, Mr. Perks.

This is a fine classic play full of heartfelt warmth with no bad language or violence, and is just right for all the family.

Performances will take place at 7pm with just a matinee performance on the Saturday.

Then their musical, Hot Mikado, will be performed from Wednesday, May 13 until Saturday 16.

This is not your usual Gilbert & Sullivan operetta, but as the title implies is a more up-beat and swinging version, including gospel, blues and rock music styles. The basic storyline, where Nanki Poo searches for his true love, Yum Yum, remains the same, but is given a modern twist.
