THERE will be a special one-off concert by world famous soprano, Ailish Tynan and award winning pianist and conductor, James Southall on Saturday, February 14.

The concert will be in support of the British Lung Foundation (BLF).

The duo will be performing a number of romantic songs by Reynaldo Hahn, Gabriel Fauré and Richard Strauss from 1pm at Elfed Avenue United Church, Elfed Avenue, Penarth.

The concert is being held in memory of the father of Helen Greenaway – a colleague of both artists - who passed away last year from the devastating lung condition idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

IPF kills around 5,000 people a year – more than conditions such as leukaemia - and there is no known cause or cure. As a result, the disease acts with often-devastating speed: barely half of people diagnosed with IPF are still alive three years later, and just one in five will survive five years.

Ailish Tynan, received the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World ‘Rosenblatt Recital Prize’ in 2003, and was both a BBC New Generation Artist and a Vilar Young Artist at the Royal Opera House. She has performed internationally in operas, concerts and recitals. She is currently performing as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel for WNO.

James Southall was the winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Accompanist's Prize in 2008 and has performed recitals at Wigmore Hall and Cadogan Hall. Since September 2008 he has been a répétiteur with WNO and will conduct their new production of The Barber of Seville in 2016.

Tickets to the concert cost £7 for adults and £5 for concessions which will be available on the door, with tea and coffee included.

Those unable to attend the event but who would still like to support the British Lung Foundation can text IPF to 70500 to donate £5.
